CHATS-Community & Home Assistance to Seniors is a leading charitable organization that provides in-home support and multicultural community programs to enable older adults to live their best at home and in their communities. CHATS advocates for and delivers high-quality, person-centred home and community services, providing dignity and choice for ageing at home. We are proud to deliver services to more than 8,500 seniors and family caregivers throughout York Region and South Simcoe.

We are currently recruiting:

Board of Directors & Committee Members  2024-2025

CHATS is seeking expressions of interest from those who share our commitment to ensuring effective, quality-based person-centred care and support for older adults and their caregivers within the healthcare system and in the community. Volunteer Board, Governance, Finance, or Quality experience are assets, as are individuals with strong communication, collaboration, and consensus-building skills.

CHATS welcomes applicants reflective of our community’s cultural and gender diversity in the York Region and South Simcoe. Successful candidates will also support, and be involved with, CHATS’ fundraising activities, with an ability to open doors within communities served by CHATS.

Volunteer transportation drivers needed to take seniors to medical appointments and grocery shopping.

Time commitment of 2-3 hours per week (or more), with flexible hours available to suit your schedule.

No evenings or weekends, all drives scheduled between 8:30 and 4:30 pm.

Use your own vehicle, masking precautions in place to protect our vulnerable seniors.

Mileage reimbursed as per distance, short and long distance drives available throughout York Region, South Simcoe and the GTA.

The Visiting Program provides older adults regular social contact for engagement and security.

The program has four options:

Telephone Reassurance (phone calls, work from your own home)

Virtual Visiting (video calls, work from your own home)

Friendly Visits (in-home visits in client’s home)

Walk and Talk (walking and companionship, in clients neighbourhood)

Flexible timing; all calls/visits are between 8:30 and 4:30 , Monday to Friday.

Time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours per week.

All volunteers must provide proof of at least 2 Covid vaccinations.

Volunteers needed to support CHATS Newcomer South Asian Adult Day Program.

Positions available each day; Monday to Friday between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm for a few hours.

Duties include greeting clients and assisting with the elevator trip to and from the program space, helping with preparing and serving of snacks and coffee, assisting with facilitation of client exercise program , serving lunch, socializing, and other programs throughout the day to support the health and wellness of the senior participants.

Gujarati, Hindi and Tamil languages an asset, but not required.

Volunteers needed to support CHATS Aurora Adult Day Program.

Positions available Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, morning or afternoon for a few hours.

Duties include assisting with facilitation of wellness activities for older adults including exercise, active games, crafts, music, serving and cleaning up lunch, socializing and encouraging participation amongst participants.

Infection Prevention and Control measures in place include masking and providing proof of at least 2 Covid vaccinations to protect vulnerable participants.

Volunteers needed to support senior clients wellness at Adult Day Program.

Assist with meal prep and clean up, exercise and active games, crafts and other activities.

Shifts available for a few hours a day, Monday, Thursday, and Friday.

Special request for a Piano playing volunteer required for Monday or Thursday.

Support CHATS Seniors wellness program every Wednesday at noon at the Link in Sutton.

Drivers needed to pick up clients and bring them to and from the lunch program. Mileage reimbursed.

Program volunteers to help serve and clean up the lunch.

Support CHATS Coffee Club every Friday from 10-11 am at Keswick Gardens.

Italian Speaking Volunteers needed to support Seniors Fitness Programs in Woodbridge

Assist with registration and payment, wellness screener for participants and monitoring of virtual participants.

2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at chancellor Community Centre (10:00 to 12:00)

1st and 3rd Thursday at St. Peter’s Church (9:00 to 11:00)

Every Wednesday at Father Bulfon Community Centre (9:00 to 11:00)

Volunteer with phone skills required to make follow up calls seniors to determine interest in programs.

Calls are made from CHATS head office in Aurora, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, 3-4 hours per week, time is flexible.

Minimal computer skills to set up client intake.

Pick up local  seniors and drive to and from a Wellness program at the Bradford Legion.

Tuesday mornings, 9:00 am pick up and 12:00 pm drive home.

Volunteer can stay and support facilitation of wellness activities: exercise, crafts, socializing, or just provide transportation.

Mileage reimbursed, masking in place to protect vulnerable seniors.
