For Caregivers: Caregiver Support & Education
Personal Consultations
Our professional Caregiver Education Counselor will personally meet with you to discuss your caregiving concerns and support you in finding solutions. The Caregiver Education Counselor will be able to discuss the following topics: the caregiver role, the aging process, balancing multiple roles including caregiving, referrals for caregiving information and community resources, stress management, and provides bereavement support. Support Groups and Workshops
An opportunity to discuss your unique issues, learn helpful coping tips and meet others in similar situations. You are not alone! Facilitated by our Caregiver Education Counselor, with regular guest speakers.
Eligibility Criteria for the Caregiver Support and Education Program:
- The informal caregiver may be a spouse, relative, friend or neighbour.
- The caregiver may or may not have formal training in caring for an ill senior.
- The caregiver may live with the care recipient or may live at a distance.
- The care recipient must live in York Region.
- If the caregiver lives outside of York Region, yet is caring for someone within York Region, he/she is eligible for information and referral services only.
- The care recipient is a senior who is 55 years of age or older and who needs assistance of a caregiver for their well-being.
- The caregiver must be willing to participate in an assessment and create a care plan if receiving support or counseling services (service agreement must be signed by the client receiving counseling).
