Tim Jones is CHATS' new Director of Development

CHATS is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Jones, former Aurora Mayor and York Region Councillor, to the position of Director of Development for CHATS – Community & Home Assistance to Seniors.

In his role, Tim will be reaching out to private donors for their support – foundations, corporations and individuals, and also bringing fundraising opportunities to the community, such as the CHATS Virtual Walk for Wellness, which takes place each January.

“My goal is to ensure CHATS is as sufficiently funded as it can be,” says Tim. “Government funding has flatlined, yet the demand for services will continue to grow. We need to ensure CHATS is there to meet the needs of a growing and diverse seniors’ population.”

CHATS, a charity launched in 1980, supports the health and well-being of more than 6,800 seniors and caregivers each year, through a full range of in-home and community programs, including personal care, homemaking, transportation, Meals on Wheels, telephone reassurance, and a variety of social/wellness programs.

Tim has been familiar with CHATS for years, and is pleased to join the team. “I saw the good work they were doing for seniors; their reputation preceded them,” says Tim, who has extensive experience with charities, volunteering and raising funds. “When the opportunity came up to join CHATS, it was one I couldn’t say no to.”

Backgrounder:

Tim served four terms as Mayor of Aurora, from 1994 to 2006, during which time he championed Council positions in areas such as local infrastructure, residential growth, environment, business improvement and a full range of local issues.

As Mayor, Tim also served as a Regional Councillor in the Region of York. There, he chaired the Administration and Finance Committee and served on committees in the areas of Transportation and Works, Transit, Fire Services, and Audit.

Tim also served on the Greater Toronto Services Board, (GTSB), the Aurora Hydro Board, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce Board and on the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance.

Tim recently filled a short term vacancy on contract as an Account Director with the Direct Marketing Firm of Blakely & Associates, raising money for hospitals and charitable organizations and is currently helping to facilitate Neighbourhood Network, a service that recruits community volunteers.

Tim volunteered with the Southlake Regional Health Centre and Foundation to raise funds for their Cancer Centre. He also recently sat on an advisory review committee with the Salvation Army as well as currently serving as chairperson for the Board of Governors for the York Region Character Foundation.
